The ‘Excellence in Instrumental and Vocal Teaching’ course has proved to be essential CPD for my role as a singing teacher. It has shown me what I’ve been doing right in my lessons as well as giving me many ideas to improve my practice.

Objective: To develop a deeper understanding of instrumental teaching pedagogy, in order to develop excellent practice in instrumental and vocal teaching
Content: This course is for instrumental and vocal teachers working in any context including peripatetic teachers employed by music organizations and schools, and private teachers working with children or adults. The course covers research and pedagogy around instrumental and vocal teaching, including up-to-date ideas for the planning and assessment of lessons, and guidance from Ofsted (the English schools’ inspectorate) in relation to instrumental and vocal teaching in schools. The course covers the different approaches required to effectively engage and motivate pupils, and gives advice for choosing exam boards, encouraging practice, and managing pupil and parent expectations.
Structure: The course is structured into five sections. Each section contains a mixture of online reading & research, video and audio materials, and interactive quizzes. The course is designed to be completed at your own pace, and if you wish to you have the option of submitting a short assignment in order to receive a completion certificate.
