The Level 4 Certificate for Music Educators was originally conceived as part of the National Plan for Music Education in England. In the last few years, under the guidance of international examinations board Trinity College London, the CME has expanded to become a global qualification for music educators right across the world. In this blog we catch up with some of Music Education Solutions® international Trinity CME learners to find out what inspired them to take the qualification, and how they are finding it.
I was looking for some professional development and it can be difficult to find relevant courses, particularly for primary-focused music teachers. In the end I chose the CME course because it is accredited by a reputable organisation and as a result I thought that the course would be rigorous and well-structured and that it would also be recognised by schools around the world. Although I have not yet finished the course, I am finding it enjoyable, beneficial and I feel that it is refreshing my teaching.Adam Briggs, Dulwich College Singapore
This year I changed schools and my professional role from a purely instrumental teacher to a classroom music teacher. I felt that I lacked the pedagogy knowledge and skills for classroom music teaching and needed to improve my practice. Through discussing my needs with Music Education Solutions, they were able to pair me with a mentor who specializes in classroom music and for the Key Stages I need to development and improve my teaching practice. I was able to “tailor” my CME to my specific needs and although I am at the beginning stages of the CME course, the content so far has been precisely relatable to my practice, with many practical examples given to reflect on my practice.Timothy O’Reilly, Nord Anglia School Ningbo, China
It is clear that the CME is an attractive qualification for English-speaking international teachers, and alongside Adam and Timothy we also have learners and mentors based in the Middle East, and all across Asia. We hope that our cohort will grow until we have a network of CME learners all across the world!
